bloodparasites

I've been really into entomology lately, so I added this page to document everything I find and snap photos of. I live in Ireland, which is very entomologically boring compared to most other regions... no great colourful beetles or magnificent palm sized moths... but there is still a lot of fun and beautiful species around here. Do keep in mind that identifications are all made by me and could be inaccurate, in which case I'd love corrections!

Also, I would like to warn that this section may contain photographs of spiders and other such creatures that may make people uncomfortable.

Small Tortoiseshell (Aglais urticae)

Possibly the most common butterfly type you can find here.. but isn't it so beautiful!? 2025 is the first year in a long while that I've seen a lot of butterflies, so I'm happy. I remember being able to spot dozens of butterflies at a time as a child. I hope this is something I can experience again! The orange colour is very striking, but my favourite part of the wing pattern has to be the purple-blue dots that compliment it. How pretty...
